Year End Review

Tonight will be our last City Council meeting for my first year. I expect a packed house, we have a public hearing on the proposed 2% hospitality tax (this should draw the regulars out) and the sidewalk sales of animals ordinance will be introduced.

I can not put into words how I feel at this time in my life.

I will try by telling you that I am thankful.

I am thankful for this whole year and those to come.
I am thankful for the experiences I have gained in this year.
I am thankful for every meal that was put before me.
I am thankful for every motion, resolution and ordinance that I had to research.
I am thankful for the people that I was fortunate enough to meet.
I am thankful for being asked to represent the City of Yuma.
I am thankful for leading the pledge in our early meetings.
I am thankful for the time and experience of being on live TV and radio.
I am thankful for my colleagues, who have experience and wisdom.
I am thankful for my administrator, who I have learned a great deal from.
I am thankful that I am finishing this list as I sit on the dais.

5:30pm - The gavel is down, time for roll call.

March Update

I really want to blog more than I have been but there just isn't enough time in the day to do everything. I have spent most of today at the office catching up on e-mails and work.

I was in DC last week at a National League of Cities conference.
I went to a lot of discussion panels and meetings.
I got to hear the other issues that effect other cities around the country and buddy Yuma is not bad at all! I have to praise our administration because they run a tight ship and we are very fortunate to have solved problems decades ago that are really hurting other communities right now.

I will be at the "Building a Quality Arizona" (BQAZ) Statewide Transportation Planning Framework study and the Yuma Union High School District Strategic Planning Team this upcoming week. So I am doing a lot of planning for the future next week.

I really hope that the people that write letters to the editor and nag about the way things are, show up at these planning events and contribute positively for a change. Anyone can complain and point the finger but only a handful show up and help out.

For some reason this was on my mind today.

That's it for now!
